I have a male platy and 3 females. The male seems to have paired off with one of the females and picks on the other two. Every time the other two females come up near the top, the male chases them down and they end up sitting on the gravel or hiding all day.

Is this normal? What should I do?

Have you observed this behavior with the current mate before?
It's possible that your male is just trying to breed with the other two and rather than consenting or finding some other way to resist, they are just retreating to the bottom.

Sometimes when male platies want to spawn, the females kept with them do not. If this happens, the male will pester any dissenting females, and chase them around. Your gals are probably just trying to keep away from your male.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."
