This is not really a problem, just something I'm puzzled about...

I have two guppies, both females, one is very young, about 2cm long (less than an inch). The thing is it swims strangely. I've noticed it since it was a little fry which made me curioius, so I put it in another tank as it was bullied by other guppies.

After observing it for a while I think I've realised why it swims funnily. It seems to be sinking most of the time and it looks at if it takes much more effort for it to float up than other guppies I've seen. I've checked the fins, they're all intact and working, but it just seems that if it would stop for a second to move its fins it will swim.

Lately I've also noticed that at night it rests on an anubias leaf. It just lies on the leaf unless disturbed by other fish. Made me think maybe something is wrong with its swim bladder.

I'm not worried about it, just curious. After it was separated and let to grow a bit, it went back to live with other guppies, managed to eat, but never really seemed to associate with other guppies.

Before you ask: my water parameters are excellent and have always been, it doesn't swim upside down and it's in a 26 gallons tank which is way understocked, so it's not an illness or anything.

I don't really have a question here, just wondered if anybody has seen such a thing before or have any ideas?

just because your tank is under stocked, dosent mean it cant get sick, or if your water is perfect, like for example, i had a yellow bettas in a 10 gallon with 2 guppies, water changes once a week, no gravel (stock tank) and he suddenly started gettig listless, weak, so i turned the filter off, and then i put him in a fry try i made/found and he died shortly after, i never found out what happned, had him for like only a day bright yellow too, but so is life, also i had the best looking female betta (yellow with selophane fins) and when i got her home...it started, but long story short, she had a massive sezure and died but it does sound very much like the swim bladder is almost deflated

I don't mean to say that perfect parameters prevent diseases 100%, but it does help a lot, and to be honest, I don't remember when was the last time a fish of mine was ill. I don't think it's ill as it's always been like that, I've noticed it when it was a week old and it's been a couple of months or more since then.

I've mentioned my parameters because I guessed some people would like to know them, and although I am sure it has nothing to do with that, i thought I'd save some posts by stating the parameters to begin with.

Again, I'm not worried about it, if I was I would have posted this in the hospital forum, I'm just curious.

Hmm, i'm thinkin its deflated swim bladder is most definitely genetic. There's nothing you can do abt it now, just that it requires a lil more TLC from you
