My LFS sold me several swordtails, which don't exactly look like swordtails they look more like platy's. they are fatter, and the tails are more platty like though they have a sword comming out of the center of the tail as apossed to the bottom. i believe they are a cross, is this common, and does it mean they will be more unhealthy or die earlier or anything bad?

Platys and swordtails frequently breed with eachother if they are not kept in seperate tanks so it is fairly common. I personally have not had any problems with this particular type of cross breed.
