Swordtails with a difference ... | |

However, these fishes can grow to be fairly large: it's not impossible for a big female to hit 5 inches. Wouldn't it be nice if there were some dwarf Swordtails in existence? Well, guess what? I just found some. Three species, to be precise. Practical Fishkeeping unearthed these beauties. They are: Xiphophorus nigrensis, Xiphophorus pygmaeus and Xiphophorus multilineatus. Only trouble is, they're hardly ever seen outside the world of specialist livebearer societies. But if you can get your hands on some, they're worth tracking down if you want all the fun of a Swordtail but a more compact maximum size. Here is the Practical Fishkeping article that covers them. |
