Well, I received my guppies from my sister's boyfriend two to three months ago. They're about five months old at the moment and my supposedly all female population *points accusingly at the very male guppy* has increased from three to well over a dozen. My ten gallon is just teaming with activity now.

When the first drops occured (both females dropped within a day or so of each other), I snatched up eight of the fry and deposited them into a breeding net. I wanted to save the first ones, though I know I can't keep them all! Other fry from the first drop hid behind the filter and the danios that were then in the tank munched on them over a long weekend.

The danios, affectionately known as the Terrible Trio, were on loan for the last month to my sister, who was starting her tank. I never ever EVER want to try and catch danios again. One of the original female guppies died of unidentified causes (red spots on the side of her stomach, perhaps indicative of not dropping all her fry, and what seemed to be a missing eye *boggles*).

My sister and I are splitting the guppies as soon as they are easily sexed and large enough not to become danio meals (she has six blue danios in her tank now). She gets the males, I get the females. Of course, it just HAD to happen that six of the original eight fry were female. I need more tanks.

Anyway, the point of this post is that the danios were reintroduced to the ten gallon yesterday. The remaining adult guppy girl just dropped MORE fry, which apparently became a midnight snack for the danios. The guppies barely paid any attention to their offspring, which means I have a bunch of fry in the tank. It's not hard for survival of everyone if there's no predators in the tank!

Anyway, since I can't count all the fry (they move far too much), I'm going to guesstimate that there is now in the tank: one adult female guppy, six one-and-a-half-month-old female guppies, approximately eight younger guppies, a few remaining newborns, along with the Terrible Trio. (Adult male and two older male fry have moved to my sister's tank.) I think I'm going to be doing a lot of water changes and cleaning!

The good news is that the danios ARE eating the youngest fry, though there do seem to be a couple that are fast enough to escape. I have a five gallon minibow that I was GOING to use for a pair of betta imbellis I've had my eye on for a long time, but now I don't know. What one earth am I going to do with all these guppies?! Anyone want some lovely silver and yellow guppies?

Where you at, fishyhelper? I think I can truthfully say that the eldest of my female fry are NOT pregnant. The males were moved when the fry were a week or so over a month old. I hope that means that I can expect to have no more fry except the residual drops from the mother... I hope.

Of the six remaining fry from the first batch, two are twins (or so it looks like) - they have solid yellow tails with a black streak at top and bottom. I'd like to keep those, but the other four are up for grabs (as well as the younger fry, when they're old enough to move). All of them currently have silver bodies, though this may change as they grow older. Their mothers have/had some nice irridescence to their bodies.

The biggest one is going to look like her father, I believe. He's a very nice yellow with black leopard-like spots, highlighted by oranges and a shimmer of green. The fry has black streaks the full length of her yellow tail. One has what looks like a starburst of black rays that start at the base of her tail and extend at odd lengths partially to the tip. One is the youngest of the fry (I saved seven from one female and one from the other) and doesn't have much in the way of color. Her mother had a mix of yellow and black on her tail, touched with blue and red.

There's also many younger fry that are just starting to show yellows in the tail. I think the danios are going to pick off anymore newborn fry, but they leave the older ones alone. Of course, this leaves me with 15+ guppies that I have no room for.

If you have extra guppies and are near, I'd be interested in a pair! Where are you located?

I'm right near Chicago if anyone's interested. Also, I make regular weekend trips to SW Michigan (St. Joseph/Benton Harbor area), so if you're on the way there, I don't mind making a detour if you want to take some of these off my hands.

Oh, and welcome to fishprofiles, tgpmd!

A bit too far out for me, but it was worth a try!

Thanks for quick reply!
