What does it mean when my double sword tail guppy changes his fins and edge of tail from clear to black? and then a minute or two later it goes back to normal?

It might just be that he is in a different light or his tail just is iridecent and changes colors with different light or water conditions hitting it. I do not think it is something to worry about it.

seems as though when the blood is flowing and he is excited then he ends up with more blood in his tail, thus the light doesn't go through as well, and it really darkens what color you are seeing...that is just my opinion, but it seems good, doesn't it? Anyone have any other ideas?--Heidi

I have an endlers sized male guppy in my 20 long, with a male Green Cobra Guppy. Those two are inseparable. Well, Buddy - the endler's sized one, he does that with his coloring. I find that in the early AM, while just the room light is on and he is just beginning to practice his courtship poses with his friend, Cobra, he is soooooo colorful. His tail goes from Michigan Blue to Michigan Maize, with white in between. It is just brilliant. But, as the day goes on, it turns almost transparent. I find it is more brilliant when he is feeding too. He's been doing that for the entire two years that I've had him. Cobra, he stays one color - that greenish gold.

Here's one blurry pic for comparison to the second pic I'll upload. Neither are good quality, but you can see how he changes colors.

Here is an early morning pic of Buddy all by himself. This is still not as dark and vibrant as it gets - it's about half way there in this pic.
