What is the difference between guppy and platy fry? | |
Rookie_Boy Hobbyist Posts: 96 Kudos: 55 Votes: 0 Registered: 07-Dec-2005 | What is the difference between guppy and platy fry? I'm just asking as I have guppies and I bought a trio of platies two months ago, a male and two females.. and then one of the females changed to a male so now I have two males and one female. I found some fry in my tank, they look the same as guppy fry, just slightly fatter than normal and somehow easier to catch. Thanks. R_Boy |

Platy fry are much larger and are born with full color. They look fatter with taller bodies and bigger eyes. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

I think the fry I have are platy fry.. but they are the same size as newborn guppy fry, and they have a slight pink tinge, and seem to congretate together in the most bushy false plant I have inside their plastic breeder. The fry in question are defintely platy since I caught two guppy fry the day before y'day. there is a size & colour diffrence. The two guppy fry are the same size as the platy fry now. I didn't realise that guppy fry grew fast.. when I only had guppies & not platies. Do guppy fry grow faster than platy fry usally? Thanks. R_Boy1 |

How fast they grow depends on a lot of factors, temp of water - in warmer water (like 82f) they grow a lot faster than in 74F water. The more water changes the faster they grow, and the more they are fed the faster they grow. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |
