My vote is for "rainbow" platies- the ones who have black tails that fade into red, which fades into an irridescent area of blue/green.
Actually, any livebearer that's highly irridescent (like a hologram) is gorgeous.

I think guppies may have the most colors but platy's wear theirs better.

Platies. they are asily the prettiest. I am personally fold of the more unusual colours, like my cram mickey mouse girl with the orange dorsal fin, or my 'appy' male .... he has spotty fry now!

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

Yes, unfortunately, you have to be a premium member. And "lfs" means (your) "local fish store".

nickman713-
You can mix any coloration of platy with another, with no ill effects. You will get all kind of colorations. But if you want them to "breed true" to what the parents are, keep two of the same coloration isolated together (without any other platies around) for at least a year. Platies, like all livebearers, can store sperm for up to about 6 months.
I got my rainbow platies at Petco. They're a pretty commonly stocked item, so check out your local Petco. But also, if you have a good lfs, they might be able to acquire them for you.
Good luck!

A lot of livebearers are pretty - my personal faves are sailfin mollies and red wagtail platies!

Brightly coloured fish like guppies or neon swords are really nice.

I also think guppy are the prettiest livebearer. Yes, you can mix reg. platy with rainbow platy. They are both pretty much the same fish only different colors. If you ask your fish/pet store they can probably have some shipped in for you.
