What is the prettiest livebearer ever? | |

wonder woman Fish Addict Posts: 545 Kudos: 279 Votes: 0 Registered: 07-Aug-2003 | nickman713- You can mix any coloration of platy with another, with no ill effects. You will get all kind of colorations. But if you want them to "breed true" to what the parents are, keep two of the same coloration isolated together (without any other platies around) for at least a year. Platies, like all livebearers, can store sperm for up to about 6 months. I got my rainbow platies at Petco. They're a pretty commonly stocked item, so check out your local Petco. But also, if you have a good lfs, they might be able to acquire them for you. Good luck! |

ynniguol Small Fry Posts: 7 Votes: 0 Registered: 20-Nov-2003 | I'm a mollie lover too! My lyretail/sailfin (not an actual mexican sailfin I'm told) male is gorgeous. He is bright orange fading to silver on his belly and his fins are all black with some silver streaking. OH LA LA, some of my dalmation mollies with the lyretail and extra long fins are also pretty spectacular! |

Also Nick lfs is local fish store(this one got me for a while) and yes you have to be a oremium member to get a profile pic, but hey its small price to support very valuable resource for your aqurium |

Babsie Hobbyist Posts: 129 Kudos: 69 Votes: 0 Registered: 13-Aug-2003 | Platies! They pack alot of color into a small ammount of space (of course other fish do to) and have babies out to the gazoo. My favorites though are my babies that are a mix of the blue spotted and I think the coral platie (notsure I forgot what type the mother was). |

That is the most beautiful livebearer I've seen yet. They are a little bit bigger then my other swords, but are getting along just the same. |

In my opinion, for the chains, Petsmart has the best selection on platies, my local was getting in a new shipment when I was there yesterday. And they know their stuff! I am new to this wonderful hobby, and they have been able to answer my dumbest questions, with nary a smirk. |

dizzydrea Fingerling Posts: 42 Votes: 0 Registered: 07-Jan-2004 | i believe all the livebearers are unique and beautiful in their own ways. i have a guppy/platy species tank and a molly species tank. guppys and platys are deftinately easier to take care of. and they come in so many wonderful colors. i've seen lots of lovely ones out of every group. the mickey mouse platies are a favorite of my sisters. they are cool. i like the black mollies with the longer fins (not as long as the sailfin though those are beautiful too). but i have seen so many that are worthy of owning. i haev a pineapple color molly now that gave birth to two fry and a green molly. i'd like to get a male black one to place with them. like i said i'm partial to the black molly but there's so many that i adore. |
