My male platy (Scraggles) is very amaciated. He was skinny when I got him from the store, and I thought he could fatten up in my tank. He doesnt appear to have any parasites or diseases, and I think he's only skinny because at the LFS he was a loser and didnt get any food. But my fish rarely pick on himm, so he gets his share of food.

I've had him for about a week, but he looks the same. Should I put him in a breeder so I can make sure he gets food?

He's the red and white one, the damn danio just wants attention.

That's funny, because I can never seem to get any pictures of my danios because they're moving too fast!

It's possible your platy has an internal parasite. There's not much you can do about it though. You could try asking in the hospital and see if anyone has any ideas.

Good luck.

If he is not being picked on, and is eating well, i would not bother putting him in a breeder trap. But if his condition becomes worse, maybe it would be best to fatten him up in a breeder trap.

What type(s) of food are you feeding him? Maybe a change in diet would help fatten him up... I have a "mystery fish" which I'd rescued --- and when first added to my community, he was small and thin... Now that he's been exposed to and joined in my regular feeding regimine (fed 3 times daily - rotating schedule of flakes, brine shrimp and then blood worms) -- he's more than doubled his size....
(IF he is suffering from an internal parasite as someone else suggested... are there any dangers to the other fish in the community? That would be one MAJOR concern in deciding to isolate him or not.... Knock wood - but so far, I've not encountered any disease, so I'm not able to give advice should the internal parasites be the case... But this would be helpful information to many of us....)

To thine own self be true...
