Leighton Fingerling Posts: 15 Kudos: 7 Votes: 0 Registered: 16-Sep-2007 | I have been to my friends house and one of his male guppies has a white cotton like thing floating behind him? Its about an inch long. Its attached to his rear end? Does this mean that he has mated with the female? I have never seen this before and just wondered what it could be? Cheers Leighton /:' |

Is it like a fuzzy string or more like a cotton ball? If it's like a string, it sounds like it's just abnormal feces. Could be diet-induced or he could have some sort of parasite. If it's like a cotton ball, it could be some sort of bacterial infection or fungal infection. I imagine someone with a bunch more experience will come in to expand on that. Was the fish acting strange in any way? Rapid breathing or flashing or anything like that? |

There are other fungal treatments in capsules you can use, but these also cause discoloration to the water. another alternative is to setup a seperate hospital tank- move the infected fish there and treat only in that tank. http://www.fishprofiles.com/site/aquarank.aspx |
