I've had to deal with this problem more than once-- I'll notice my female getting larger and her gravid spot becoming more noticeable. So I think, "Babies, hooray!" Only, sometimes she keeps getting bigger. Naively I think, oh, she's having a lot of babies. Right before I noticed she had dropsy. @_@

This happened to anybody else? Where can you draw the line at pregnancy bloating?

well if it's a livebearer you should expect fry about once a month. though at times i have lost females to the stress of delivery:#(could this actually be what is happening? as i understand dropsy is when a fish is getting older and the kidneys and other body systems are beginning to shut down and are not able to get rid of the waste their bodies are storing. My suggestion, keep up with your water changes, when you feel that the fish is due to deliver, increase them a little, and just keep an eye on her. That's just my thoughts. Heidi
