Which of the live bearers bears fry most often and has the largest amount of fry?

Guppy's are non stop breeders & you'll have lots of fry every month.

i agree W/ guppies. i think that most large liverbearers stay kinda skinny so less fry

edit, from waht i myself have noticed(which can be different for everyone) but the larger common livebearers: swords/molly kinda get different from guppies/platys. i often see female guppies that are huge, u can see the ribs against the skin.

Where as on the mooly/sword collection i have had, never really got that large in away(of course being larger fish they would be larger) i have never seen one get like that, more torpedo like. but that is just me.

and with the ratio in a ten, it depends... do u have other fry tanks ready. in a 10 i wouldn't recommend female guppies unless u plan on raising for food(which u are), but to have other larger tanks ready. that way everybody has room.

Definetly guppies.
I had one big huge 2.5 inch female the would produce
no word of a lie, over 70 babies every 30 days!

bettachris- what you mean by skinny? I have never ever had a "skinny" female guppy molly or platy. They all have been very huge and fat and always pregnant. The skinny ones I have found never live long, i think something is wrong inside.

Whats the right ratio of males to females for guppies and how many can I comfortably put in a ten?

Im looking at maybe doing an amazon leaf fish setup next and they require feeder fish.

In a 10 gallon you could try 1 male to 4 females? Just a sugg. but you'll have to be careful as they'll be reproducing VERY quickly...

Maybe you can go with 1 male & 3 females & another tank to raise some of the fry aswell.

guppies=20-100 are more common ,reports of 150-200 fry
platys/swordtail=anywhere from 100 depending on size and condition
molly=can be as many as 100 but 30-50 more often

That was straight from a breeding book. GUPPIES WAS THE WINNER! If you need anymore info on these guys ask me(but im not smart)

Don't forget Endlers Livebearers. I started with 1 male and 3 females and ended up with 80 in four months.

Guppies are the easiest to care for, especially if you have a second tank for the fry.

Try getting a green cobra male and three fancy tailed females... the fry will be very pretty!!!

"I think that most will take them but unless there show quality you probably wont get any $$$."

I disagree. I was raising Guppies that, while nice,
were hardly show guppies and I was getting paid in cash dollars for the fish. 2 fish for 1.50, 8 weeks of age.(think 1/4 of an inch- males just colored up)
Not store credit but cash. Pays to check around.
