Guppies will not release fry if they are stressed, things such as changing water conditions, new tank mates and dirty water will stress them. You should also check the temperature, guppies will not release fry when the water drops below 72F.

About the "guppies don't drop if the temp is below 72"
Well, that can't be true because I had a guppy drop fry at least 3 times and the temp was 67 degrees. And yes I know that is cold but at the time I didn't know that they liked warmer temps.

How often and how many fry did they drop?

I've observed my guppies in my pond becoming "Less Frisky" at 72F and I haven't been able to collect any fry since fall.

I have no clue how many they dropped, I just know that my danios looked pretty fat after, LoL. I managed to save 5. I had them for 6 months and the weird thing was that they never grew to their full size...sadly ICK took them a couple weeks ago.

just b/c it have been a couple of months doesn't mean that they will give birth. i was lucky with my mollies that they give birth all of my 16 females about once every 1-2 months. just keep feeding them and changing the water. i added salt which might have helped.

Thanks John Stone. I was thinking of breeding some more guppies in the 3 gallon but I've decided that its too small. I'll wait to my 5 1/2 and my 10 gallons are free.

Meg, give it time...I know after I move my tanks (Pasadena to Galveston and later Galveston to Houston) it took some time for the females to start having fry again...but when they do, they will keep dropping about once a month or so...Also maybe the mix is not working (ie...the males and females aren't interested in each other Sure it happens on occasion)...Be patient, it will happen...Heidi

in the books i've read some breaders like colder temps for breading and some like warmer...i bread guppies and got out of it for a wile, and i'm thinking about getting back into it, but i always had success at about 75...just wait and see..
