I ran a poll similar to this, but included any type of guppy. Let's limit this to male fancy guppies (i.e., green cobras, moscow, sunrise, and basically anything with a fancy long tail that wasn't purchased from a feeder fish tank ).

Let's keep the smaller endlers/endler's mix out of this poll too.

What is the longest any male, fancy guppy you have had lived? Tell us about the fish - type/description. How did you lose him? Upload a pic if you have one.

I have a green cobra male named "Cobra" that is 2 years old. I didn't expect Cobra to live this long based on what I heard about fancy guppies. He gorges himself all day long, if not on fish food he finds, then on algae in the tank. He eats so much he looks pregnant. I always worry he is going to bust, but since he made it this far, he can do what he wants

Less than one year

This is a metallic blue male I've had since he was born; he's the only guppy fry I've been able to resuce from the community tank they live in.

Doesn't like the camera so this photo doesn't do his coloring justice.

Cobra is gorgeous btw, great picture

Yes still living...was kind of hard for me to vote since I haven't kept fish that long. Sorry for the confusion

I had to laugh at your comment about Cobra eating. Other fish go about their 'fish business' but males guppies seem to be driven to two things: females and food

Cobra doesn't have any ladies to "entertain", but there is a male endlers/mix. They practice their courtship poses at each other all day long.

Here's an interesting list of those documented guppy courtship rituals (select "Guppy Lab" from the list):
