The female is a yellow snakeskin and the male may not win any guppy shows but I think he's interesting. He looks like a cross between a lyretail and a wild guppy. His body is a mix of bright red streaks and blue spots and he has a huge dorsal fin that looks like black lace. The upper part of his tail has a big neon yellow streak and the ba I just moved them to a 5g yesterday because with the sparkling gouramis in the 20g I haven't seen any fry for 2months. Now the whole 5g is full of little guppies. Will they eat all the fry? Should I move the parents back to the 20g? I didn't plan on putting any effort into breeding guppies but now I can't stand to lose all the little ones. Last edited by sham at 11-Sep-2005 21:38 |

As for if the parents will eat them? It's really up to the fry and parents...I know KTS's adult guppies always eat the frywhile my guppies (some of her adults were my fry) won't touch the fry:%)thus over population, constantly Congratulations...heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." I see a lot of new tanks in your future, all housing lovely little guppies. I feel with you and I think that in particular the first generation of babies breaks your heart. Then, after a few aditional breedings, it's more like "AGAIN?". Anyway, congratulations, Ingo |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | I was planning on moving any colorful males I like to my 90g planted tank. It's very understocked so there's plenty of space. The females are going in with the gouramis so even if I mistake a male for female or drop a pregnant one in there the gouramis will fix the problem. I'm sure even with some population control and seperating genders I will end up with too many guppies within a few months. I can fit a couple 10g tanks under the stands. Whatever it works out to. So far I count 28 guppy fry and no apparent losses but counting guppy fry is not that easy. Much easier than counting tiny egg la |
