tankie Fish Addict Posts: 857 Kudos: 848 Votes: 230 Registered: 15-Mar-2005 | ive noticed in the past 2 days...that my alpha male platy has changed...meaning...someone took over the position... my mickey mouse platy was used to be the alpha male..but now...the converted male(supressed male) yellow platy became the dominant male...it could be because of constant harassment of the mickeys that it decided to retaliate and try his luck...and probably, he realised that he is bigger than the micky....so, he was successful. do u guys have this kind of experience?? Such situations occur everywhere in the animal world. In an environment where the rule “survival of the fittest” is taken literally, new bosses are crowned all the time. The tank is no exception to this rule. The introduction of new fish to an existing population will cause a new hierarchical order for any fish that lives in a group setting. And even if no new fish are added, all existing fish will get older, the younger ones become stronger, the older ones weaker and will eventually be replaced on the top of the ladder by the former children.
