Is there such a thing? My Lfs had been selling them for a while, though they aren't as colourful as the 'tropical platys'. I thought maybe they might be a wild type, and was thinking of breeding them in a pond to mosquitos using it. If they are coldwater, would they survive a melbourne winter? The pond is nearly a metre deep, and it never snows.

Considering that platies originate in Central America, I would assume the coldwater platies are wild or just have been raised in water colder than water where platies are normally raised by farmers.

How cold does it get in Melbourne?

True it was hot the other day, but in winter it IS cold, and we sometimes get temperature swings. I don't think i could get an outdoor heater, so these 'coldwater platys' probably wouldn't have much fun, right?
