![]() | deformity in my fry |
jefferysgirl![]() Hobbyist Posts: 124 Kudos: 91 Registered: 22-Jun-2004 ![]() ![]() | I noticed today that 2 of my 10 baby guppies have a weird curve in their tails. instead of being straight like the rest they have a dip so their tail is pointed upwards. is this a normal thing or is it due to poor nutrition or something that i can help. Any information will be welcomed. they swim just like the rest and i thought they got as much food. they are the smallest. ![]() ![]() |

I believe this is a genetic mutation and is more than likely caused by years and years of inbreeding. There isn't anything else "wrong" with those guppies though, just a handicap, so to speak. Some hobbiests cull these kinds of fry and keep the others but if you wanna keep them and grow them out as pets, go for it. you can probably name them Nemo or something. ![]() |

Just keep them, and love them like the others, they will be just as special to you as the rest. Now don't be surprised if when the males become full grown, and they have really large tails that the males backs will occassionally bend also. All I can figure is this to is normal as I've seen many pictures of males with this problem, and all I can figure is that the weight of the tail is a little more than the spine can handle...Glad that they are still doing well ![]() "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom."
