Can female livebearers get pregnant all the time? Meaning are they fertile all of the time or do they have "periods" like mammals?

Pretty much every female livebearer that's in a tank with males or has been in the last 6 months is pregnant. As soon as one batch drops, she's pregnant again. Probably a bit stressful, but more or less impossible to slow down, so ... that's a female livebearer's life!

My current 'record' for a female having batches of fry without the presence of a male is 4 times. If they average a batch every 4-6 weeks, thats 16-24 weeks. Quite phenomenal really but then 'survival of the fittest' means just that.
