How long does it normally take to determine sex of molly fry? i dont see any gonopodiums on ANY of the 40-50 fry i have.. all varying in ages, oldest being 5 months youngest being a few days........ they all have "female" fins as far as i've noticed...

PLEASE TELL ME I WONT END UP WITH 50 FEMALES>@>#@$%>$^%>&

They develop as the fish matures

They SHOULD show up earlier than five months, though! I think my oldest fry are about two months, and I've already separated out four males (young mothers, first drops, so the numbers were small).

I made a post a while back on the fry I was calling a [link=late bloomer]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Livebearers%20Lane/51313.html" style="COLOR: #00A0AE[/link]... he developed WAY past the time all the others did, but eventually turned out to be male...

I've heard that temperature and/or water conditions can influence the sex of fry. I know my tank was up around 82 when my current batches of fry were born, because that was the room temperature (silly summer weather), and most of them are female. *shrugs*

Every fish is difeferent from each other so it can varie from 4 months to 1 year, believe it has happened to me. And you can see that on other livebearers such as swordtails( the females can even change sexes).
