bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | 2 questions: 1) how does the male fertiz... the female if everytime he gets near my female she swims away. 2) i have one female that is very fat with the gravid spot. she is still active and her stomach is very large. i got her about 4 weeks ago when she was still the same way. what is going on. is it that she is in an active tank with rainbows. or something. |

Hooktor Fish Addict Posts: 646 Kudos: 651 Votes: 67 Registered: 22-Mar-2004 | 1) The female is probably getting very annoyed with the male but soon she will give in and let him insert his gonopodium (sorry don't mean to get to graphic) and anyways, you might just not be catching it as it happens so fast. 2) She might be nervous in a tank with bigger fish, maybe try to move her to a calmer tank, or add plants where she could hide. If not that, she could also still be stressed from the move so she does not feel comfortable dropping the fry yet. |

nbaker1176 Small Fry Posts: 3 Kudos: 3 Votes: 0 Registered: 21-Apr-2005 | I suggest you increase the temperature by a degree. When you do this it encourages the female to drop her fry. you'll have to keep an eye on her though as the fry will quickly be eaten. |
