My Q is that i put her in my smaller tank with 7 rainbows, 2 rams, and loaches. If she gives birth in the tank, i guess i wont see that many fry left. but wat are the signs that she might give birth so i can put her in the breeding traps. looks now: Very fat, bent back. |

Also, their bellies will turn more square than round right before they are about to give birth. |

When a female guppy or any other livebearer is ready to drop, they tend to go towards the bottom of the tank. If it is planted they will go and try to get more among the plants. She won't be moving as much as is normal, and while she is delivering, she will almost appear breathless (well that is how I always see them as looking), and they won't be eating either...i find that if mine can totally hide they will...it makes it less likely for "prey" to get to them during this time of "danger" heidi PS congratulations on the find "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." If so her time is coming, the fry will seek shelter, and should be fine...feed them on crushed fish food...I just tend to throw my adult foods into a ziplock and seal it without air, then rub it between your two hands till it becomes powdery, and viola it is fry food...best of luck, heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Also a dark gravid spot will appear on the guppy that will grow extremely dark before birth. Also if any males are present they will constantly harass the female and nudge her underside, ever-vigilent for a snack to drop into their open mouths. |
