when a guppy is pegnant is their gravid spot black, but if it's tan does that mean that they are pregnant.

When pregnant, a Guppy will get really fat & you cannot miss it.

some other ways i've been told to tell, is if they eat less, or not at all or even if they stay closer to the bottom of the tank.

most of the time the female will get a square boxy shape to her stomach before she is ready to drop.

if you want, adding a teaspoon of table salt to the water will help, and raising the tank temperature 1 or 2 degrees can stimulate her to have her fry.

yea, if she stays in one spot, usually by plants she is close to dropping young, but generally they will get fat.

Here's some pics of my own guppies, to give you an idea.

My six girls is varying stages of pregnancy:

One or two are pretty slim, might be at the beginning of their cycle.

One girl just about to drop... think she dropped the next day:

It is pretty safe to say... if the female has ever been in a tank with a male... it is pregnant...

I've found that the gravid spot will change colors, and it doesn't always seem to have a reason. For the longest time, I didn't have males in with my females, virgin brides if you will, as I raised them from fry. The gravid spots were always black.

Now that I've bred them, the gravid spots change color, especially right before giving birth. As you can see above on the picture of the single female, you can see how the gravid spot's color isn't black... it's mottled because you can see the fry inside.

Basically, wait and see... you may have fry in a month or so. Also, she can sometimes hold onto sperm for a long time, until she feels safe to give birth. I had the two yellow/orange girls for two months before they started dropping. *shrugs*
