Mollies are very easy to keep. Just be sure that you get all females or all males unless you want babies. Also add a little aquarium salt to the water.

I found the same thing. I started with mollies and let's just say had a very sad ending almost putting me off fishkeeping altogether. Honestly, I don't think they are very tolerant of the cycle process and that was a large part of the problem. But... I knew nothing about fishkeeping then (buy a fish, put it in a bowl of water... what's to know ?)

I now have 3 mollies who are thriving. I don't think they are quite as hardy as platys but I have found them relatively easy to keep this time around. The biggest problem I have experienced is with the females. Every time I have purchased a female molly, it has already been pregnant and I have found that they just don't seem to endure the trip from the store to their new home while carrying young very well. The last female I purchased was the same story. However, this time I managed to nurse her through. Now, after what I thought was certain death and two months of living alone in a hospital tank, she has just delivered over 50 fry !!

Salt has been the subject of many debates. Mollys actually do not require salt. They just require clean water with good aeration.

Find them very easy and quite hardy. My oldest fish are my 3 mollies from my original tank. Almost a year old now. Also they are pretty good algae consumers and will peck about at the stuff 24/7.

Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability.
