my ways of breeding!!! | |
ronnfive Enthusiast Posts: 188 Kudos: 219 Votes: 0 Registered: 28-Jul-2004 | Here's my way of breeding, i just like to share them... and maybe this would help... This is the actual situation, I got 3 very pregnant red coral platy I placed them at my small pond (2 square meters) which is heavily planted, and then after 2 days one had dropped of about 60+ fry. Unfortunately not all of them survive maybe half of them got eaten, but anyway, I moved the mother and the other 2 to my 10G tank after the mother completely dropped the batch. Then, after 2-3 weeks providing the fry a lot of healthy foods, they doubled of their size. I now then moved the mother and the other 2 back to my pond. First they attempt to catch the fry,] but the fry are now able to swim fast to hide at the plants. The fry keep floating everywhere just like playing and they constantly sees them until finally, they completely ignores them. After a week, the other 2 female delivered another batch of fry of about 120+, and they ignore them. While the mother of the first batch is now plump again and ready to deliver next week. ronnfive Enthusiast Posts: 188 Kudos: 219 Votes: 0 Registered: 28-Jul-2004 | Tankie, here’s a tip for you, do not transfer the mother platy with a net. Try as much as you can not to stress the mom. For it may cause not to drop the batch and you’ll wait for another week instead of this week. Or she’ll drop the batch but some of them are still premature or undeveloped. Here’s what I did, I scoop her with a small bucket and then transfer to the tank. But not so fast, try to mix the water in the tank slowly with the water in the bucket. I did this because I believe that the babies in her tummy are sensitive to the water change. Good luck for your next batch! Fishy helper, that’s a very good planning. But don’t you like fry because you like to encourage frogs. Frogs and your bettas aside from their parents are going to munch those poor little guys. Well, if you like fry control that might be good. And if don’t, I suggest throwing in some anacharis and hornwort, for fry to hide in. Those two types of plants are very hardy and rapid growth; you can either plant it with a pot or let it float. Good luck though! |
