bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | i have a group of endlers that are adjusting to my water, but right now in the holding tanks, one of the big females is dead, but sticking out of her is a big baby(about the size of a swordtail baby) umm.. should i be concered about illnesss spreading around, i have two other really fat females that will be due any day now. |

If you are going to try to save the baby you should do somethign immediately other than that jsut give her a "proper burial" I woudl say.... |

angeleel Fish Addict Posts: 561 Kudos: 472 Votes: 61 Registered: 08-Feb-2005 | With a 20 Gallon filled with about 300 Endler fry right now, I can tell you that 2 out of the 5 mothers that were prego died during giving birth. I also have noticed that if you leave your fry in with the dads they will sometimes "chase" the female fish into not having her babys.She will hold on them.... Did you have them seperated? What else is in the tank with them? I hope I can help you more. Oh yea if the mom has already died then, there is no use as the babys most likely are all dead now. bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | yea, i have no idea when she died, but today when i was cleaning it smelled bad, so i am guessing the babys are dead, these endlers are in a "transision" phase from my grandpas brown water to the clear water i use, so they were in a rather small 2.5, but now i have them in a 5 gallon, with plants and semi brown water. unfort. now the male/female ratio is not blanced, but hopefully within the next few months, there shhould be a stable population that can live in my clear water. |
