the other day i went to this warm spring beside a lake with my girl friend, and we were catching the fish that were in there with just nets and some low quality fish food. (we put back all the fish we caught, just for fun) and i saw the fish that were in the water, there were convicts, some other kinds of cichlids, and this type of livebearer which i wasnt sure about.

first, there are about 200+ females, because they are all the same uni colored fish, goldish color. and only about 30 colored ones, and they are either marbled, gold with bright yellow tails, or black with yellow tails. these are pretty vague describtions, but anybody know? and how do you identify platies from mollies??

how big were they?

uhmmm, up to... say 2.5 inches

Probably platies, mollies can get up to twice that size

Did you take any pics?

one can't really be sure until you get one and take a pic, because people are releaseing there pet fish into wild streams/rivers.

ic, i saw some pictures on mollies the other day on websites, i think they are mollies.

i do have some pictures, but hard to see them, so its kinda useless. thanks tho

maybe it's a balloon mollies or pot-bellied molly that's why the size is so small.
