Nevertheless, if you have problems identifying if your female is very pregnant, I would suggest you start looking for fry the next day after you got her. That’s what happened to me, brought her home on Sunday, and had fry on Monday – although only briefly, until they were eaten by their tank mates (darn Danios are sooooo fast ]:| ). Ingo |

At least they haven't ever been in my experience and i've kept them in with fancy guppies and never had a problem...maybe she felt as though she were being threatened? I don't really know, kind of strange, but luckily you were awake and able to see it happen...if possible (5 gallons is small) give him some place to hide, something else could have spooked him...just a small terra cotta pot if nothing else will at least give him a place to go and get away...Good luck finding another platy that you like, I know the places around here will sell only 1heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." tankie Fish Addict Posts: 857 Kudos: 848 Votes: 230 Registered: 15-Mar-2005 | well..my platies tend to be nipy just during feeding time...of course they wana get the best stuffs...otherwise...they dont bother anyone in the tank except thier own specially the males....showing off almost all the time. if u notice a black part in the abdomen near the anal part of the fish..aside from being plump..then i guess..its just a few days or a week b4 she give birth...my platy is full red...i know when shes giving birth when her color underside starts "cracking"...there will be white coloration from stretching of the belly...and i usually just wait for a few days b4 i can see fry in the tank... they have a 28 days cycle...more or less..mine..is almost always ahed by a week. gudluck |
