preg molly..help fast!!! | |
ladiejl Big Fish Posts: 492 Kudos: 204 Votes: 23 Registered: 27-Feb-2003 | Have a pregnant molly...go down a few post and read about her. Been waiting on her to have babies. I am getting ready to leave in like 10 minutes. just got up and got ready, went and checked on her. for a minute she swam around then went and drooped down by the heater. tail down but still flapping fins. then she swam around pretty normally. i netted her which she put up a fight about and after i put her in the breeder net she went to the bottom and sat there. shes never acts like this. Could she be dying or is this normal preg behavior before delivery? Should I move her? let her out of net? I wont be back for like four hours. what do I do? |

ladiejl Big Fish Posts: 492 Kudos: 204 Votes: 23 Registered: 27-Feb-2003 | Well, Im home now. I let her back out before I left because she had started moving around in the net. She really doesnt like it. So...I come home expecting to find her having gave birth or dead.........Wouldnt you know she is absolutely fine AND shes still holding those babies in! I want to catch the fry because I dont want fry in my tank. Im really trying to keep it clean and I dont want dead fry in there. But I guess theres nothing else I can do. I have an empty 5 gallon hex. I was going to use it for a fry/quarentine tank. I may take her and put her in it. |

You mean THE OTHER 2 pregnant livebearers. I only moved one of those and I dont even remember why. That was 2 1/2 years ago. The one that died recently stayed in her tank. |

ladiejl Big Fish Posts: 492 Kudos: 204 Votes: 23 Registered: 27-Feb-2003 | There are plants there. still nothing...... Im beginning to think she is just a big fish. Maybe not pregnant at all. Then again, how would you tell with a black molly? Ive always thought I knew w Mollies because of the shape. Maybe I dont know. Ive never had one who I thought was that wasnt. bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | give her time, most mollies that are black, so really black mollies will be box shaped. it is posible that she could just be a big female, but if she is preg, and not given birth, like i said b4, dont move her, dont frighten her, just let her be. stressing them out is the last thing they need. so dont change the water, dont add anything, keep the lights off longer, and feed the other fish on the opposite side of the tank of where she is. |

ladiejl Big Fish Posts: 492 Kudos: 204 Votes: 23 Registered: 27-Feb-2003 | Finally!!! She finally had her fry. And in true Molly fashion, Im guessing it was early morning on Sunday. I KNEW she would do it and I would miss it. I expected to find tons of fry but only found about 15-20 at most. Only the mother and the other molly could have really eaten them. But, shes doing fine as are the fry. |

chelaine Big Fish Posts: 383 Kudos: 343 Votes: 78 Registered: 23-Jul-2005 | mollies for sure eat fry.. i've seen em anywho... i was gonna post this, but as for you thinking she was just a "big fish".. most female mollies are pregnant when you buy them.... they'll have a batch of fry every 28 days or so. mollies are particularly hard to see a gravid spot in because of the thickness of their scales... but you can almost be waiting on another batch pretty soon. even if you dont have any molly males, she could hold sperm from three months ago... anywho.. good luck with the babies!! and congrats. *Chelle* I love the fishes cuz they're SOOO delicious... |
