If the said female has been in a tank with a male you can expect her to be pregnant, as that is what livebearers do best. Just keep an eye on her for the next month, if she starts getting larger (one of my students says "Her bottom end is getting really big like, I know she must be pregnant" there is a high possibility that she is. If so you should have fry within the next month...I usually expect fry within every 28-33 days...when she drops the fry mark your calendar and begin counting... If your tank is well planted you will be fine. You will notice a day or so before the drop is coming she will begin to stay closer to the bottom of the tank, and be really slow moving...the first few days the fry are there you may not really be able to see them as they are quite tiny and almost invisible. They won't really swim but dart about in a small area...crush up your regular flakes really small; more like powder and you can feed them on this, and they will be fine... I had mine for the last four months and seems that they never got hit or at least I never noticed when they were. I seem to notice that one of my platys is having an orange like gravid spot and the ventral part is increasing but not too much compared with the others. I do not know what to do because this is the first time I am noticing such changes. In case she is hit, I do like to save the fry if possible. I have another tank where I can place her. |

She is 3 inches long and 1.5 inches wide Platys usually do not have a gravid spot visible to the eye. You pretty much have to go by the shape and size of the female. Hope this helps you. This female was about 4 days before giving birth to around 100 fry. [/font] Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

It took her only about 6 hours to drop all those fry, she was poppin em out almost 2 at a time. I think she is the mom of most of my younger platies. She seems to be very fertile Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |
