I am not sure, but i think that they can give birth twice without a male. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

That's why they call it prolific breeder. As i almost always said, mark your calendar after she gave birth and just count up to 28-32 days for another batch.:88) Gud luck for the next batch!!! |

houston Fish Guru You want what when? Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | Hey there Chris, congratulations, and I'm sorry about the losses as well...Do yourself and your girls a favor, put some floating plants in the tank with them, that way if they give birth the fry have a place to escape to, ok? You know even I can't kill anacharisand it floats wonderfully...but you might also have a few you just haven't seen them yet, it is possible...KTS and I tore down the 10 gallon in the classroom before spring break and couldn't find a fry in there at all, came back from spring break and there were 9 in thereso don't give up hope, it is nature that causes them to hide so well, even when the only thing in the tank is gravel:%) As far as if you need another male, no you don't need to rush out and get another male...I forget the technical name, but yes, livebearers can hold sperm for as many drops of fry and you should be able to get at least 6-8 mroe drops from what they are carrying, scary I think, but again that is mother nature's waySo needless to say, by the time your momma's are running a little low, you should start having some mature males that will be happy to swim in and help things along... Again congratulations and i'm sorry, heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Thomas Carlyle |
