i was thinking of moving my swordtails from my 55 gallon to my 29 gallon which is currently only housing 3 danios.

i have 5 pineapple swordtail fry almost three months old, one breeding pair of pineapple swords and a female swordtail that is completly red, and her 5 red fry also around three months old.
10 fry 3 adults..
is this too much for my little 29 gallon if i remove my danios?

i am probably going out on a limb here, but i can almost guess the answer is, thats WAY too many fish for that aquarium.

I would not think so. That is enough room for everyone unless you have unusually large swordtails. Considering they are a community fish, and their temperment and everything I would do that myself.

Swordies can get quite big... I'd be leery of housing them permanently in a 29 gallon, especially since they're livebearers, and thus, breeding all over the place.

The danios will act as population control... if you want to keep your fry, I wouldn't keep them in the same tank as danios.

at most i'd say the fish are two inches, pretty small.

and the fry are large enough to not get eaten.

so 29 gallons is enough for all these fish? or would i have to move my fry once they start getting bigger?

they will be fine in there for a while... but if the 10 fry will reach adulthood, then you've got a good reason to buy another tank. and BTW, the danios are out!

LOL! thats all i need is ANOTHER reason to buy ANOTHER tank.....

I've had my heart set on another 55 gallon, but my hubby wants aggressive fish and i like good ole friendly community fish... so there might be a battle about that one.

I really just want to move the swordies to another tank because they all just blend together with the mollies.

ultimately i want to sell the sword fry, but i have only females which makes them not very sought-after... and thats all i need is 10 more females for the male to have his way with.

i'm thinking of just giving them to a local pet store and calling it quits. haha. either way i'll have like 10 more coming in less than a month. :%)
