i have heard a lot of people saying they sell their fry to "a local pet store". My question is whether u sell them so they can be food for fish that only eat live fish or so they can be pets when they get bigger? I would also like to know how much money u sell them for.

Well the LFS here gives my a store credit of half the price of the fish I'm giving them. It depends what type of fry you are giving them. If they are guppies I would say they would become food but I would give them the fry when the are larger and look nice and colourful.

for guppies...not a whole lot...like 5 cents if you're lucky. I think most places breed their own since they're very easy to breed and they probably also have a lot of other people asking money for them.

Look around, ask at all your different pet stores.
I have a store near me that gives you 3.00 a pair for fancy guppies! Another gives 2.50 a pair. Dont sell your fish for 5 cents thats ridiculous.
Another option is, get a seperate tank, say a 10g, once the fry are colored up, say around the 4-6 month mark, put an add in your local paper, buy sell and trade, or some such thing, and sell them that way. People can come to your house to pick them, Then you know for sure they are going to be pets.
I myself have never heard of anyone using guppys in my area as feeders. The only feeders people use are goldfish, and some people use white cloud mountain minnows, but never guppies.

theres different feeder guppies around here...small, grey, and some have some neat color...I guess it depends where u try to sell guppies at...they breed so much I wouldn't pay too much for them if i owned a fish store...around here I know I wouldn't get much for em.

the fish store by me will only take the fry if u have more than one like a pair but they only give about a dollar per pair and i think they use them for bait give your local pet store a call and ask them

I get 50 cents each for livebearers. I could probably get more but I want them to call me instead of ordering from their suppliers. I sell to 4 stores, some I get store credit and 1 writes me a check. If you expect to get any money for them they need to be colored up so that means you need a tank for the fry to grow in.

Lots of water changes and small feedings 4 times a day grows them pretty quick but you are still going to have them at least 2 months.

Good luck, Mike

p.s. If you expect to make money, forget it. You'll never even get to the break even point.

My lfs offers 1/3 the price of fish IF they even agree to buy them.... They will, however, take any free fish I have to offer....
