20g saltwater | |
bayara Hobbyist Posts: 139 Kudos: 117 Votes: 14 Registered: 30-Aug-2004 | I've never had a saltwater aquarium before, but I'm contemplating turning my 20g into a small reef tank with a couple small fish. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to start this endevour? It was a freshwater aquarium, so I currently have an AC 150 available for it. Is this good enough for the filter? and what else will I need? |

The first book is titled "The New Marine Aquarium" written by Michael S. Paletta. The 2nd book is titled "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" written by Robert M. Fenner. If theres anything to start you off in the right direction, these are the ones. The first think I will warn you is that 20g for a marine tank is very small. Water quality is not as stable in a small system. Secondly, most marine fish will outgrow a 20g tank, allowing you to keep 1 or 2 small fish in your system. It is suggested to purchase a tank of at least 50g for a marine system. Lastly, research before you take the "plunge". I have found that its very expensive,(my 70g has cost over $1700). So if you don't have the pocketbook, don't think about it. There are many freshwater systems that look very nice for a much cheaper $ number. Hope this helps. |
