6 Gal salt water | |
african_man Enthusiast Posts: 167 Kudos: 139 Votes: 2 Registered: 27-Jul-2005 | Is it possible to set up a 6 gallon tank with a salt water set up? if so what equiptment do you need and what can you keep in there? i know this is small but ive allways been interested in nano tanks. this is only for curiosity at this stage so im not going to rush off and wack a clown in there or somthing! that ed' be silly. |

Since you can't run a protein skimmer, and other methods of filtration(nutrient export) would be difficult to fit into a tank this size, frequent water changes are a must. If it's only corals and some inverts, it wouldn't be as bad, but maintainance would still be difficult, with topoffs at least daily. The only fish I'd seriously think about keeping in a tank that size is a small goby. If you are going to try it, read up at www.nano-reef.com. They have some neat ideas for the problems that arise in small tanks. One of my favorites are the people that convert HOB filters into refugiums with clip on lamps, very creative.
