Someone has been telling my neice that when here fish died it caused the alkalinity of the water to rise. This caused her to have to start all over again. Is someone talking out of you know were (well maybe she just heard it all wrong).

She is now starting all over again the right way as far as I know by reading this forum. She has live rock w/ live sand. She is cycleing w/ craps and snails which I thought kinda of weird.

I dont think a dead fish (s) would cause alk to rise......sounds kinda funny to me.

There is no reason for her to cycle with anything if she is using live rock......the rock will cycle the tank for her.

The snails and crabs wont do anything as far as cycling a tank......way to little waste produced.
