Best way to get water moving | |
IhAvEsOmEfIsH Hobbyist Posts: 145 Kudos: 95 Votes: 2 Registered: 13-Aug-2004 | Whats the best way to get the water moving in a small 20g SW tank. I already have a penguin 170 HOB filter but I am going to be keeping mulitple anenomes in this tank and would prefer to get a little more current. I was thinking about a pump but then I thought that would be overkill. Maybe a powerhead? Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Also, what type of lighting does your tank have? Thats another important consideration when trying to keep anenomes. Powerheads are your best options to get water moving though. I have 3 Maxi Jet 1200's and 2 Rio SEIO 820's in my 75 gallon tank. In addition to the Mag 3 pump that powers my skimmer. Last edited by lil_mikey69 at 14-Dec-2004 00:29 |

There is a high risk of them getting sucked up the intake to the power heads. Some more concerns with your tank; In size, your tank will not allow very many, if more than one or two, anemonees to be kept. Most anemonees will grow a lot larger than you see them for sale in the lfs. I have several that would take half or more of the space of your tank size you have listed. Another thing is the anemonee compatability. Many anemonees will sting others, and even kill them. So much caution should be taken when placing different species of anemonees in the same tank. Because, as stated, they can and will move. And they can actually move the entire length of you tank in less than an hours time. Also, though some anemonees will be fine with most all fish, some will not. Be sure you don't get an anemonee that is going to eat all your fish. Most fish know about different anemonees, and when you place the anemonee in the tank, all your fish may hover into the opposite area of the tank, and not leave that area. HTH..... There is always a bigger fish... |
