I believe many fish guru's here know what this is...in short words this is a complete natural system for breaking nitrate that doesn't even need to use a single pump.... it involves producing a layer of dead still water at the bottom of the tank below layers of sand which is low in oxygen where denitrifying takes place(an anaerobic layer) , oxygen from NO3 will be consumed and plain nitrogen gas is released.

This system claims that it can avoid the need to do ANY water change, (maybe just 1 every 6 months). Well it is reasonable if it can really remove nitrate.

Anyone know more about this system? and any comments?

From what I have read, the Jaubert system cannot be directly related to a home aquarium, because he used extremely large aquariums. In order for a plenum system to work for the hobbyist, you need to have a skimmer. There have been many adverse things written about this system, one being that the dead spots in the plenum are a breeding ground for detrimental bacteria that can produce infections, like ick. One source of good information is this link here:

Hope this helps.

Very true statement. Another issue is traped oxygen which is deadly to a smaller system, even some larger ones. From the books I've read, I would have to say that the Jaubert technique is outdated, unless you plan on having a tank thats 300g plus.
