Get one that has extruded carbom block in the carbon filter section, as it doesn't channel or compact, and has a longer life. Also look for ones with Hi-S instead of CFH membreanes, they are more efficient and last longer. A bit more pricey than the lesser units, but worth it in the end. Oh, and you can always get an RO unit that has a detachable tap adapter. That way you won't have to worry about plumbing, and it'll be portable for when you move. |

DarkRealm Overlord Moderator metal-R-us Posts: 5962 Kudos: 2166 Registered: 23-Sep-2002 | The skimmer will depend on how much your budget is for a skimmer, how big your sump/fuge is, and a couple other things. As for the pump...it has an inlet and an outlet. Hard to explain but its simple to set up. Ill send you a PM about how to set it up when i have a little more time later. [hr width='40%'] I think about you baby, and I dream about you all the time I’m here without you baby, but you're still with me in my dreams… Last edited by DarkRealm Overlord at 22-Feb-2005 14:30 |

DarkRealm Overlord Moderator metal-R-us Posts: 5962 Kudos: 2166 Registered: 23-Sep-2002 | the MPDI-25 should be more than enough water for you....it will make close to 25gpd. I use the MPDI-60, but I also need the extra water output incase I need to make a "quick" 50 gallons for a water change. |

terranova Fish Master Posts: 1984 Kudos: 1889 Votes: 229 Registered: 09-Jul-2003 | Nate...do you think it's worth it to drag RO water back and forth from work...? I don't know if I want to get an RO/DI unit, as I'm only gunna be here for what, like 2 more years? So it might not be worth it... Or maybe I'll just ask for one for my birthday. -Formerly known as the Ferretfish |

DarkRealm Overlord Moderator metal-R-us Posts: 5962 Kudos: 2166 Registered: 23-Sep-2002 | MH wont be needed for the fuge....you can use it, but its not needed. I would go with Chaetomorpha algae as it isnt toxic, and very(and I mean very) rarely will go sexual. As far as clean up crew, I have found that if you use RO or RO/DI water you dont need as big of a clean up crew. I only have 6 snails and maybe 10 hermits in my 180.....along with about a dozen nassarius snails for the sand bed, and a zebra brittle star which never leaves his rock. Wait till you get your tank up and running, and add a little at a time until you find the balance for your tank. Last edited by DarkRealm Overlord at 09-Feb-2005 20:25 |

terranova Fish Master Posts: 1984 Kudos: 1889 Votes: 229 Registered: 09-Jul-2003 | I'll keep an eye out for those Marc. That seems like an awfully big clean up crew. Not sure whats going in the fuge...I want to have a lot of copepods growin' in it for my 6 line though. Haven't picked out lighting for the sump, but it better not be more MHs. -Formerly known as the Ferretfish |

ACIDRAIN Moderator Posts: 3162 Kudos: 1381 Votes: 416 Registered: 14-Jan-2002 | She has listed heaters in her original post. But to add to it, I would suggest you might try a new one that just came out. I got several and I love them. They have a bunch of safety features, like unbreakable, automatic shutoff switch in case of coming out of water, and they even have a shock absorber on the bottom for the heating elements to prevent them from breaking. They are "Visi-therm Stealth" heaters. They are solid black, and made of some kind of heavy, melt proof plastic. I have had 4 of them for about 3 months now, and love them. They also carry a lifetime guarantee! As for a clean up crew, that will need to be added to your list as well. Something like this; 75 small hermies, zebras, reds, or blues for algae on the rock. About 20 turbo snails, and/or nasarius snails, for algae on the glass, and rock, and everywhere. A sand sifting star, to turn up the sand, and keep it aireated. 1-3 emerald green crabs, to combat any bubble algae that may occur, and they look cool too. A cucumber or two or more, to help with the algae, sand sifting, and other stuff, all depending on which cucumber you get. And maybe some other stuff. But you have time, as you need your tank done with the cycle and going for a little time, to accumulate food stuffs for them in the tank. Another thing, are you going to have live plants in your fuge? If so, you should be thinking of what kinds you will be using. Like Caulerpa or chaeto or what ever else. You will need to look into some lighting for them as well. But, the lighting of PCs will be fine for the fuge, and not nessicarily MHs. HTH..... There is always a bigger fish... |
