Tank set up | |
Melosu58 Hobbyist Posts: 120 Kudos: 86 Votes: 0 Registered: 05-May-2007 | I usually post close up pics of my tank but I wanted to take some pics of the whole tank set up. I dont like canopies so I have a long reflector hood over my 4 VHO bulbs. It`s just a different alternative to the canopy. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i121/Melosu58/100_1670.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i121/Melosu58/100_1657.jpg |

Very nice layout and the coral's look very good. Any pointers to keeping healthy corals? What does that mean, Bob? "Till the cows come home." Where have the cows been? |

It`s usually pretty tight If I get them in. A long time ago I had one and it got all warped from the SW spray that got on them. Many reasons but I just like simplicity and I think that is what I have. Mr Orange That reef you are looking at is over 10 yrs old. Many of them corals were frags that are pretty huge. Later on I`ll do a before and after on my corals. The key IMO to a healthy reef is PWC`s. I know alot of folks dont want to hear that but I`ve never supplemented anything in my tank but small frequent PWC`s. They IMO contain all the chemical makeup that your corals will ever need. You say that cost money but so be it. A healthy reef that I can show others is worth it to me. And yes both of my clowns host coral. They totally ignored by BTA that I had to get rid of it. They say the proof is in the pudding. LOL http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i121/Melosu58/100_1013-1.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i121/Melosu58/100_0638.jpg |

I have found especially in the saltwater hobby there are a lot of people doing a lot of different setups and a wide variety of them seem to work. About what percentage and how often do you do your PWC's? We're talking ro/di PWC's right? Also any brand of salt you recomend over others? I started out with instant ocean and haven't used anything else. I saw the blue linkia starfish on your stock list on fantasyreef, how long have/did you have it? I was looking at getting one but read they only live a short life in a tank ~1-2 years. Keep up the good work and once again, great looking tank! What does that mean, Bob? "Till the cows come home." Where have the cows been? |

It keeps my calcium at 450-480 just with simple PWC`s. And yes RO/DI water is a must IMO. As far as the blue linknia he is 4 yrs old and still kicking. Here is my favorite pic of him and my other star which is about a yr old. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i121/Melosu58/000_0252.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i121/Melosu58/100_1046.jpg |

He is the boss of his third of the tank and makes sure the GS maroon clowns know it. There's also a pistol shrimp in the tank, but they have different burrows as of now, ever tried to pair the goby up? I don't remember seeing oceanic salt at the lfs, may try to find some before I get to the end of my current bucket. What does that mean, Bob? "Till the cows come home." Where have the cows been? |
