It would probably be best if you just added a closed loop.

I want to do something similar. Powerheads suck.

Indeed...

I'm not sure if this answers the question completely, but what about an Oceans Motions unit?

They provide GREAT circulation. Plumbing looks a little tricky, but there never seems to be a dead area in the tank with these units. You can get the 4-way or the 8-way depending on your tank size. I'm going with the 4-way set up on my 72 gallon.

They're a little pricey but I think it's well worth it. Then again, I'm not so sure this answers the question you asked.

Either way the link for Oceans Motions is here:

HTH!

I've looked at the Oceans Motions myself. The plumbing makes my head want to explode. Thats the only reason I've haven't ordered.

Another thing that has my interest is this Manifold method by Calfo.

So if anyone wants to come over and plumb either of those setups, I'd be happy to accept your assistance

MIKEY ,I printed off that article last week.Thats where I got the idea I need better flow. That and my lovely Bride constantly reminding me that the power heads are "ugly."
I want to upgrade to a mag 5 on my Remora.Mabey upgrade the return to a mag 9 "if the over flow can handle it" and use the mag 7 for the closed loop. The Oceans motion is just too high since I will be going broke on my lighting this month!

*likes the way your wifey thinks*

Powerheads ARE ugly...thats why I said Oceans Motions unit!!!

The price on the 4-way isn't too bad...

I think...err...I KNOW one of the most important things in this hobby is not skimping out when it comes to equipment...fishhead, if I were you, I would wait and save for the OM unit, it will be worth it in the long run.

The plumbing isn't TOO bad Mikey. Well, the 8-way one is. And the 4-way can get complicated...Dels tank is living proof of this, or so I hear...

But really, all I think you need to do is make sure you have a strong pump and a ball valve, and lots of PVC pipe. If I can handle it (with some help...) I'm sure you guys can.

Best of Luck!
