Many people opt to go beyond these options and use wet/dry sumps, canister filters, and/or live rock to perform biological filtration duty. Then there are algal turf scrubbers, refugiums, and all manner of sophisticated devices. As with freshwater, the biggest and best filtration is very helpful, since marine fish tend to be a lot less forgiving of bad water quality than their freshwater counterparts. Another important piece of equipment is the protein skimmer, especially if you want to go with live rock. These things take so much gunk out of the water it isn't even funny. Hope that's what you were looking for. |
