crushed coral and cloudy water | |
johnnylaw1984 Enthusiast Posts: 158 Kudos: 168 Votes: 19 Registered: 27-Sep-2004 | I recently started a 50 gallon saltwater aquarium. It is going to be a fish only, with live rock. I rinsed the crushed coral substrate and figured it was almost perfectly clean, when i started to add water, the water became really cloudy, is this normal? Any help would be great, this is my first lsaltwater aquarium and am just starting to get my feet wet. thanks john |

Once you do that, use a bowl and set it on top of the bags....pour your water into the bowl and let it overflow onto the bags. It will still cloud, but not bad at all. If you run your filter (if you are using one or have a spare HOB filter) with some filter wool in it, it should clear the water up pretty fast. |

IS there a way to remove the particles to gurantee the absence of the cloudy water? Any help would be great. thanks john |

Give it some time...are you running an HOB? And the trick with adding water to substrate that DRO posted works really well...mine was working fine unti I decided halfway through filling that I didn't have enough sand in my tank...so I added another 50 pound bag and screwed it up.
