I have an extra 10 gallon aquarium and my current tank is a 55 gallon and i was thinking of setting a sump up. is it possible to have the sump connected without having the tank drilled like have one pipe come out the top right and the return come from the left? i have seen the sump pumps in home depot, these are the one to use right? how many actual pumps do i need?

you can use an overflow box/boxes to get the water down from the tank to the sump, but these can cause problems occasoinally and have the added risk of a flood. sump pumps at home dept are normally used for sumps in a basement to keep water out, just use a subersable aquarium pump. Be careful with the size of your sump, if your pumps fail or there is a power outage, there is a possiblity for a flood.
