HELP! I have two clownfish that I have recently added to a new tank setup. At the moment, my pH is around 8.5. Is that too high for the little blighters?!

8.2 - 8.4 is ideal for them.Does not like pH variations that occur too rapidly. Make sure you do not make such variations happen or the fish will be stressed and soon break out with parasites.

so is 8.5 too much??

the tank is in the setup stages (the fish have been in there only since last Sunday) - is it normal to have such a high pH?

Setup stages? And you are cycling with fish?

Take the fish out if you are still cycling.......they WILL die from the ammonia and nitrite spike. If you are not going to use any live rock, then cycle with a raw piece of shrimp.

If the 8.5 pH is stable and doesn't vary you'll be fine.
