Hey guys,
I posted a little bit ago and noone responded I was just wondering what plants would be good for a 10 gallon, and a 20 long? The 10 gal, is going to be an all cory tank, I was thinking java moss and some java ferns. I was also recommended some medium amazon swords. Im not sure what the WPG's are, anyone have any hints on how to tell? Both tanks get a good bit of sunlight!
Sam

currently in my 10 gallon i have java fern, ludwiga, bacopa, banana plant, and something that was referred to as an aluminum plant. The ludwiga seemed to root the fastest and grow the tallest in a short amount of time.

For a 10g tank, the bulbs will either be a flourescent strip or a pair of incandescent screw in bulbs. If you have the incandescent type, they are pretty much worthless, but! can easily be replaced with compact spiral flourescents that work wonderfully. I have 2 23w compact flour. in my 10g coming in at around 4wpg.
You take the bulb wattage and divide by the gallons:
20w / 10g = 2 wpg like that sorta thing.

As for plants: Wisteria, Ambulia, Anubias Nana, Banana Plant, Vallisneria Spiralis are all nice looking plants that grow well depending on the light.

For an all cory tank, I'd suggest a sandy aquarium, with the occasional anubias/fern tied to DW.

Hey Sam,

Not knowing what type of lights that you are currently using for your 10 gal. I'll tell you what I did for mine to grow live plants.

It's a planted 10 that was converted from 2 screw in incadescent bulbs, to now using 2 Philips 15W mini spiral Daylight fluorescents. Make certain (if you do) go with screw in flo's that they are a Daylight bulb as the spectrum is best for your live plants (6500K). Warm white's have a Kelvin of 2700, and cool whites have a 4100 Kelvin. For saftey reasons do not exceed the maximum wattage rating.

Although I have no Cory's in my 10 gal. my 20 has 12 of the little ones and have these same plants but layed out slightly different.

Plants in my 10 gal. are planted in a small pea size substrate, they are Brazilian Pennywort, Moneywort, Corkscrew Valisneria, Anubias (not sure which variation it is), Hornwort, Java Fern, Java Moss, Hygrophila Polysperma, Wisteria and Cryptocoryne wendtii. They all seem to be doing well under the 3 WPG, no ferts or CO2 injections. Just be sure to match the plants your interested in to your available WPG (low, moderate, and high light requirements, and you should be ok)

Bogwood with Java Moss on it is great if the female Cory decides to lay her eggs in it. But alot of the time the eggs are layed on the glass, it's nice to give them the option though

All the best, and let us know what you get!
