Hey guys, I get some [plants 2 weeks ago, and the nitrates in my tank are still high (they got higher if anything)

I have a little bit of hornwort, some parrot feather, and 4 groups of anarcharis.

The plants look like they have been growing (I have added alother "group" of the anarcharis because it got too high) But they arent sucking up the nitrates.... what should I do?

How often and how large are your water changes?

Whats the stocking and the feeding routine? Also how much light and what's the lenght of the photoperiod?

If the tank is producing more nitrAtes than the plants can consume they just wont go down period.

The fish load is fine.

There is 2 17W bulbs in the tank, to make 1.7 WPG and the lights are on for an avergae of 12 hrs a day.

I do a 30% WC every other week.

What is the nitrate level ?

Change some of the water until the nitrates are about 15.

A HEAVILY planted tank will use up nitrates quickly, a lightly or medium planted tank will not. Hornwort and water lettuce are 2 plants that will really help you in this case.

Your water change schedule sounds good. When's last time the filter media was changed ? How many times a day are your fish fed ? (trying to think of any nitrate sources sorry if i sound dumb here)

Hi,

Everything sounds fine, but the feeding, maybe that is what's causing the high nitrates, try feeding once a day, that should really make a difference. If you have the space, try floating plants like silivinia.

Another good nitrate sucker is Hygrophilia diformis (water sprite) you can leave it floating or plated in the substrate.
