For one of my empty 10 gallons, I'm thinking of an asian biotope. Only fish in there so far planned is an african butterfly. I'm thinking I'll stick mostly to anubias, since the sand layer will be very thin (so I dont need to buy snails, stir sand, etc), and I dont want to waste money on gravel (plus I like the look of sand better).

So, my question is, what are some nice african swamp plants? As in, roots in the water, leaves out of it? Are there any?

Fish suggestions are great too, though this is the wrong place to ask about that one

I don't think I'd keep the butterfly in a 10.

We have them where I work, they're weird fish. :%) I feed them crickits...I think they are too large for a 10 and need something with more surface area, as they are top dwellers only.

I can't help you out with the plant thing. >.<

Yeah, I've kept many african butterflies...someone in a previous thread suggested it for a 10g tank I was planning, and it sounded like a good idea...I mean, I've never seen them get over 3 1/2 inches long, and if it was only one...? Maybe, I don't know. Perhaps I'll leave him in the 30 gallon.

...but really...no plant suggestions...?

there are probably swamp plants, but i do not know of any. I do know of a few that grow in the jungle such as any type of ANUBIAS or the BOLBITIS HEUDELOTTI. If you do want their leaves out of the water, the air will have to be very humid and wet. I would suggest to just grow them completly under water(submerged). These plants will do great with light as low as 1 watt per gallon.
