I have a green stringy algae on some of my broad leaved plants. Any ideas as to what could be the cause? I am very new to the planted aquarium and have only had this one up for about a month. Any tips or advice for a beginner?

you need to dose your tank with flourish excel... as directed...

it sounds like hair algae or BBA...PM or reseach FISHPATTY's thread... she got rid of it with that product...

Thanks guys!

I found that excess iron levels can cause hair algae growth, which is what i have. I was unknowingly probably adding flourish iron when it wasn't necessary.

Thanks for the links Garry they were very helpful.

I have had a tough time ridding myself of brown algae on my plants. I finally broke down and bought a gold algae eater. It was also suggested to me to up the amount of time my lites are on. But, the lighting suggestion I believe, is specific to brown algae.

The GAE is doing nicely at cleaning up!
